Vitalize Alfalfa Edge™ features Vitalize Forage Alfalfa, a hand-selected, grazing-tolerant alfalfa developed specifically for real-world food plots and forage systems where traditional alfalfa varieties often fail.

This forgiving alfalfa was chosen for its ability to establish across variable soil conditions and persist under consistent browse pressure. To further improve stand success and longevity, it is supported with resilient perennial clovers that enhance overall performance and durability.

Alfalfa Edge excels when frost-seeded or interseeded into existing perennial fields and is an excellent choice for land managers looking to improve forage diversity and early-season productivity. It can also be mixed with Vitalize Premium Clover+ to create an advanced frost-seeding system that delivers outstanding spring performance.

Seeding Rates

  • Monoculture planting: 12 lb per acre
  • Frost seeding or overseeding: 6 lb per acre

Vitalize Alfalfa Edge™ is an ideal solution for food plots and forage systems that demand durability, flexibility, and long-term performance under real grazing pressure.

How to use:

For Monoculture Plantings (Alone):

  • Seed at 12 lb per acre.
  • Best for new fields or when planting alfalfa as the only crop.

For Frost Seeding or Overseeding into Existing Fields:

  • Apply 6 lb per acre.
  • Ideal for adding alfalfa to established perennial fields without disturbing existing crops.

For Mixing with Vitalize Premium Clover+:

  • Combine Alfalfa Edge with Premium Clover+ to create a frost-seeding system.
  • This mixture enhances early spring growth and improves stand success in variable soil conditions.

Tips for Best Results:

  • Ensure soil is well-prepared and moderately firm before seeding.
  • Use light grazing or mowing after establishment to help the alfalfa thrive.
  • Water consistently if rainfall is low during establishment.

Vitalize Alfalfa Management Strategy

Alfalfa is a cornerstone perennial in our system. Its deep roots, nitrogen contribution, drought resilience, and elite forage quality make it extremely valuable. To maintain long-term productivity, it must be managed intentionally.

Years 1 into 2: Establish and Reinforce
Plant Alfalfa Edge and allow it to dominate.
During this phase, it is perfectly acceptable to frost seed or overseed with Alfalfa Edge to:
Maintain density
Fill in thin areas from browse pressure
Strengthen taproot development

This stage builds root mass, soil structure, and long term fertility.

Years 2 into 4: Natural Transition
As the stand matures, it will naturally shift toward greater clover presence.
At this point:
Begin overseeding with Premium Clover+
Allow clover and chicory to take the lead
Reduce additional alfalfa pressure

Each fall, overseed with Carbon Load to increase root diversity, stimulate soil biology, and help cycle older alfalfa residue.
Maintain this transition for approximately two seasons.

Reset and Repeat
As older alfalfa roots biologically cycle out, autotoxic effects naturally diminish. Once this reset occurs, you can confidently return to Alfalfa Edge and repeat the cycle.

No tillage. No termination. Just managed succession.
Build. Transition. Reset. Repeat.

That is the Vitalize system.
